Pregnancy Massage

Pregnant Woman

The journey of pregnancy is a wonderous and exciting time for any family.  Whilst the changes your body goes through may bring some delightful perks [anyone ever wished they could buy a beautiful pregnancy glow?!], there can also be many less pleasant ones to contend with as your hormones rage and your musculoskeletal system adapts to support your growing baby.

How can pregnancy or prenatal massage help?

Whether you have aches and pains to address or simply need to take a moment to relax your mind from the additional worries that pregnancy can deliver, we will tailor your prenatal massage to your individual pregnancy needs.  Here are just some of the common complaints that pregnancy massage can safely and effectively relieve:

-Reduce back pain

-Relieve muscular tension and associated joint or nerve pain

-Reduce stress and anxiety levels

-Improve sleep

-Increase local blood and lymph flow, reducing oedema and swelling

-Reduce headaches

When can I receive pregnancy massage?

Whilst we can't wait to meet you and your little bump, the fragility of the first trimester during pregnancy means that we can only provide pregnancy massage in the second and third trimesters.

First trimester mamas, hang on in there, it won't be long!

If you have recently experienced any bleeding, pre-term contractions or have any of the following conditions, please speak to your healthcare team before booking a pregnancy massage:

-High risk pregnancy

-Previous pre-term labour

-Pregnancy induced hypertension

-Pre-eclampsia

-Experiencing severe swelling, high blood pressure or sudden severe headaches

What about after labour?

As if labour wasn't tiring enough, you now have a gorgeous little bundle of joy to tend to 24/7, phew!  No time for a 'post event' recovery or marathon catch up on your sleep session, it's full steam ahead and all systems go from the minute your precious little one arrives.  It's no wonder that most new mums feel exhausted.

Then there are the aches and pains that start to creep in as a result of new strains on your body from the repetitive demands of breastfeeding, carrying, bouncing, etc.

Fear not, post partum massage can help your body recover from the demands of labour and birth, improve sleep, relaxation and mood, and relieve those new aches and pains.  Not only that, but we will also offer advice on how to avoid those common new parenting ailments

 â€‹

When can I receive post partum massage?

You can visit us for post partum massage as soon as you feel ready.  If you had a complicated labour or birth we would advise you to speak to your healthcare team before booking a massage.

If you have had a caesarean section we can see you 6 weeks post delivery.

Brilliant massage for pain relief and relaxation!  I was struggling with back pain in my third trimester, Gail knew exactly what to do and I felt much better afterwards.  My pain may have disappeared, but I will definitely be back.

Laura W.

I visited Gail for back pain when pregnant.  It was my first pregnancy and I was quite nervous of doing anything that might affect the baby.  Gail was brilliant!  She immediately put me at ease and made me feel comfortable throughout the treatment.  She is incredibly professional, and a wonderful therapist.  I left feeling like a new person!

Sophie A.

Gail's massages have not only helped me relieve my pregnancy aches and pains, they have given me the gift of sleep!  Thank you!
